Use Beowulf clusters (collections off-the-shelf commodity computers programmed act concert, resulting supercomputer performance at fraction of cost) has spread far wide in computational science community. Many application groups assembling operating ir own "private supercomputers" rather than relying centralized computing centers. Such clusters used climate modeling, computational biology, astrophysics, materials science, well non-traditional areas such financial modeling entertainment. Much this new popularity can be attributed to growth of open-source movement. The second edition Beowulf Cluster Computing Linux has been completely updated; all three stand-alone sections have important new material. The introductory material in first part now includes new chapter giving an overview of book background cluster-specific issues, including why how choose cluster, well new chapters cluster initialization systems (including ROCKS OSCAR) on network setup tuning. The information parallel programming in second part now includes chapters basic parallel programming available libraries programs clusters. The third largest part of book, which describes software infrastructure tools managing cluster resources, has new material cluster management on Scyld system.
